Trasa "Midland Metra" w większości przebiega śladem dawnej linii kolejowej; na wyjeździe z B'ham przez kilka km poprowadzona jest wzdłuż istniejącej kolei. Tu widzimy tramwaj zjeżdżający z wiaduktu poprowdzonego nad odgałęziającymi się do pobliskich magazynów bocznicami towarowymi.

This little company competes directly with the rail service between the picturesque Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham - directly to the left of this view is Moor Street station, where trains from Stratford arrive. Nevertheless, when buying new buses, the company could have specified a few extras, such as leather seats, which would definitely have helped it secure additional clientele.

On the right we have the incumbent provider on the local market, on the left - a competitor with a little shed in the field and a few little buses which run a suburban service between Birmingham and Oldbury. There is one difference between the UK and the former USSR - the little guys survive mainly on pensioners. Every Briton over 60. gets free bus travel (refunded by the councils), so many of them will use the bus rather than their car even if they own one. And since they can use ANY bus for free, they will get on whatever comes along first. That's why the big providers try to broaden their market by attracting other social groups, whereas the smaller ones prefer to concentrate on pensioners and students.

One of the last decisions of the Department for Transport before the election was the agreement to fund the extension of the Midland Metro from the current terminus at Snow Hill through the city centre to the main rail station at New Street. The project would also entail a complete change of rolling stock for bigger trams. And rightly so - apart from being a little tight, the quality of these vehicles leaves a bit to be desired. Unfortunately, the new government has already annouced cuts of £600m from the department's budget. Thus, knowing how much the Tories dislike trams, it is a good question whether this project will survive.

22 march 2010 - West Bromwich, przystanek Kenrick Park. Niektóre wagony otrzymały nowe malowanie srebrno-różowe. Generalnie w UK panują nieco inne gusta niż na kontynencie - na taborze często spotyka się fiolety, róże, a nawet głęboką czerń, do tego w dziwnych zestawieniach.
